My father enjoyed playing golf at the golf village, Gullane. Gullane No 1 Course boasts commanding views of the surrounding area. I recall going there myself back in 1995 to get reference for one of my dad’s paintings, soaking in the grandness of the course.
My own connections to the village of Gullane go further still. I had two exhibitions of my own paintings at the Gullane Gallery back in 2015 and 2016. One of my paintings featured was the nearby Preston Mill. My dad and I both painted this picturesque mill.
This stunning original oil painting is titled “Hilltop and Kirklands” and features the 17th & 18th holes of No 1 course.

Hilltop & Kirklands
Hilltop & Kirklands are the 17th & 18th holes of Gullane No 1 Course, not too far from North Berwick. Golf has been played over the Linksland at Gullane since the 1700s. It’s one of the most prestigious golf clubs in Scotland.
Gullane is at the heart of Scotland’s self-styled ‘Golf Coast’ and there is no doubt that this is a golf village. There are three golf courses (numbered 1, 2 and 3) that all begin and end in this village of 4,000 people.
Archerfield
There is also a children’s course which is free to play just next door. As you drive into the village from Edinburgh you pass Luffness Golf Course and Muirfield greets you on the way out before meeting the Archerfield estate.
Perhaps Pinehurst is the only other place in the world that has such a concentration of golf courses.
