Scottish Open
The Loch Lomond World Invitational was a high profile professional golf tournament held at the picturesque Loch Lomond Golf Club in Scotland during the mid to late 19990’s.
It served as a premier, independent event before evolving into the Scottish Open. Inaugurated in 1996, it attracted top international talent, including Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie, and was known for its luxurious setting.
This poster was for the first event held 19th – 22nd September 1996 which was won by Thomas Bjorn. The aim of the tournament was to attract top- 60 world ranking players to the challenging course designed by Tom Weiskopf.
From 1997 to 2000 it took the traditional Scottish Open slot before the Open Championship and then became the official Scottish Open in 2001.
Rolex
The Tournament was known for its luxurious, parkland style setting, attracting notable golfers like Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie. The event was plagued by a lack of primary sponsors in its early days.
The tournament was a crucial step in the evolution of modern Scottish professional golf, bridging the gap between the end of the old Scottish Open and the start of the modern Rolex Series event.
