A very carefully composed conceptual painting of the Gleneagles Hotel painted in gouache. This was a preparation painting for a much larger poster by my father which is currently available.
The brush stokes used to render the foreground shadow over the green are loose and expressive. However the hotel and figures have been painted with careful precision. The large cloud is beautifully positioned to provide balance and to take one’s eye into the areas of interest.
This is one of 4 conceptual paintings of Gleneagles that were painted larger as more finished poster designs.

Luxury Hotel
Gleneagles Hotel is one of Scotland’s most iconic luxury hotels. I recall seeing a golf tournament with my dad at Gleneagles when I was about 16 years old. We drove there in a 1960’s Riley on a glorious sunny day.

This small landscape painted in gouache as a conceptual for a larger poster captures a view that I remember seeing with my dad when we were getting reference for his Scottish collection of golf course paintings back in the mid 1980’s. The Gleneagles Hotel can be seen in the background.
