An original watercolour – Unframed

One of three watercolours painted “en plein air” on the Island of Capri of the Faraglioni Rocks. Two were painted on watercolour blocks on Arches watercolour paper. The third was a sketchbook watercolour. As each wash was drying, I would quickly move from one painting to another.

It was a very productive, intense time of painting. I was concentrating so much that I was almost oblivious to the small group of Italian school children who were watching me paint.

Back in the studio I was able to paint two larger watercolours of the Faraglioni Rocks.

Bay of Naples

We had a week staying in Sorrento in the Bay of Naples. Oner of the trips we made was to the Island of Capri where I painted several watercolours of the Faraglioni Rocks. From the high vantage point where I painted from the Faraglioi Rocks looked quite insignificant, however the arch rising out of the sea was big enough for our boat to go through.

Capri is a beautiful Island in the Bay of Naples.

Amalfi

The infamous Amalfi coast and its neighbouring islands of Ischia, Capri and Procida are amongst the most stunningly beautiful and romantic destinations you could find. I enjoyed our visit to Amalfi where I purchased some watercolour paper from the oldest paper mill in Italy. The handmade paper was pure joy to paint this watercolour of Faraglioni Rocks in Capri.
