An original watercolour painting of Warkworth Castle painted on Amalfi watercolour paper. When I received a commission to paint over a dozen north east castles I decided to spread them across the year capturing the changing seasons. Warkworth Castle was one of the summer commissions. I positioned myself on the banks of the River Coquet and watched the sun disappear behind Warkworth Castle.

Over the years I’ve received many commissions to paint Northumberland’s distinctive Castles. Warkworth Castle has an impressive vantage point looking over the River Coquet. I have two favourite views, one further upstream with the castle surrounded by trees reflected in the river, and this one nearer to the mouth of the river.
