The painting was inspired by my own studies painted from the Accademia Bridge.

Since I first wrote this blog post back in 2011, I’ve been fortunate to return to Venice several times. We had a short but wonderful trip in 2018, travelling with our son and his wife. Our son wanted to see the place where he used to live when he was a little boy. I did a number of sketchbook watercolours, including the canal where he dropped his toy cars into the dark waters, never to be seen again! One of the sketches was of the scene which became a handmade card for my wife Susan.
