The Tyne Bridge is a through arch bridge over the River Tyne in North East England. This links Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. The bridge was designed by the engineering firm Mott, Hay and Anderson. They went on to design the Forth Road Bridge. Dorman Long and Co. of Middlesbrough built this fascinating bridge.
Angel of the North
In 2017 I received a commission to do a very large oil painting of the Angel of the North. The highlight of this wonderful painting is the Angel’s wings. They are coated with 22 carat gold leaf. We then discussed a second commission to go alongside the Angel, this time of the Tyne Bridge.
I’ve decided to do a smaller preparation painting in oils with gold leaf. I checked that everything was going to work out in terms of colour. The composition and where on the painting to apply the gold leaf.
You can watch a short video on YouTube of me painting some of the details of the Tyne Bridge, quayside Painting.
