St Marks Square Venice Prints | Limited Editions of Italy – Alan Reed
Venice Paintings and Prints
A sketch painted at 6am before the crowds arrived, provided the inspiration for this study looking towards San Giorgio Maggiore.
It also depicts the columns of Venice’s two patrons, Marco and Todaro which marks the official gateway to Venice.

Paintings of Venice
Venice is a magical city. There are so many amazing views of Venice that have been captured by artists.
There are the obvious ones of St Mark’s Square and the Grand Canal, but then you have the quiet canals that are so distinctive. Sunlight in Venice is of a small canal not far from St Mark’s Square. I recall standing on a bridge, observing the sunlight striking the crumbling facade. The sunlight was connecting the architecture to the rippling water. I decided to capture the scene in my sketchbook.

Paintings of Italy
Alan Reed’s Painting Blog has lots of interesting paintings and references about Painting in Italy.
Over the last few years I’ve received a number of commissions from clients who have a home in Italy. They have asked me to do a painting of their property. Each building has been quite different in terms of size and location. However, they have all had their own distinct charm and appeal. Doing Paintings of Italy was something I never expected when I set out as an artist.
