Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many artists have found themselves without work, teaching, technical support and gallery work. Exhibitions and sales have disappeared.

In an attempt to help alleviate some of this stress Martin Burrows has instigated the ARTIST SUPPORT PLEDGE

The concept is a simple one. Artists post images of their work, on Instagram which they are willing to sell for no more than £200 each (not including shipping).

Once I sell sell 5 of my paintings, I pledge to buy another artists work for £200.

This generous strategy was initiated by Matthew Burrows @matthewburrowsstudio and it has been successful in helping artists worldwide.

Anyone can buy the work. Every time an artist reaches £1000 of sales, they pledge to spend £200 on another artists work.

Marrakesh

Shop Marakesh Paintings and prints from our online exhibition, this beautiful original watercolour depicts a busy market day. The size is 12″ x 8″ and available through the Artist Support Pledge for £200.

Marrakesh Original Watercolour Painting created by Artist Alan Reed for sale from our Fine Art Gallery in Northumberland.

Much of the light in the painting comes from the artificial lamps under the stalls. I laid a wash of yellow over the block to set the tone and mood for the rest of the painting. Also it was to help create the warm glow coming from the lamps.

This original watercolour of El Fna Square Marrakech is one of the shop Marrakesh paintings I’ve made available as part of the Artist Support Pledge. You can read all about it in some of my recent blog posts.

Jemaa el-Fna is the city’s top attraction and can be visited at all hours of the day. We even recommend visiting in the morning and then returning at night to see how it has metamorphosed. Watching its various shows are also great fun! Marrakech’s main square is definitely never dull.

Morocco

As part of my research in to Morocco, I took a fresh look at some of the paintings by Arthur Melville. He’s one of my painting heroes who travelled to places like Morocco and painted them in a very distinct and beautiful way. He was fascinated by what he saw of the Citadel, bazaars, narrow streets, fruit stalls, carpet sellers and coffee houses. It was these crowded lanes and alleys that captivated Melville, offering the chance to record dazzling light. He made sketches of what he observed, working these up into finished paintings in his studio.
