Grey Street – Original Watercolour Painting

£800.00

I have a couple of painting commissions involving figures and architecture.
This scene of Grey Street (now available £975 framed) is a great way to loosen up with some fresh lively brush strokes to capture the movement of the figures and the classic Georgian architecture.
It also features my wife Susan and our niece Catriona when she was about 3 years old, on the way to Panis on High Bridge Street.
I never tire of painting Grey Street, whether it’s summer, snow or rain. There’s always something going on to inspire.

Painting Newcastle

When painting Grey Street I find it great fun to bringing to life people for extra movement and interest. I like painting Grey Street in winter because you have the challenge of resolving the reflections of the sky, buildings and figures in the wet pavement. Watercolour is the ideal medium for this but you need to know the sequence of washes and how to build up the colour.

Grainger Town

Grainger Town is one of the dazzling jewels in Newcastle’s crown. With classical architecture designed in the 1830s by the internationally renowned Richard Grainger.

Grainger Town is the historic heart of Newcastle and includes Grainger Market, Theatre Royal, Grey Street, Grainger Street and Clayton Street.

The focal point is Grey’s Monument, erected in 1838 to commemorate the Reform Act of 1832, drafted during Earl Grey’s time as Prime Minister.

Grey Street is home to Theatre Royal and a range of restaurants, bars and cafes, galleries and independent shops. Take time to explore Grainger Market, home to the original Marks and Spencer’s Penny Bazaar and Central Arcade.
