Bikes in Amsterdam – Print

£159.00

One of the distinctive aspects of Amsterdam is the amount of bikes that are chained up to railings throughout the city.

On one of the evenings I was able to get suitable reference as the sun was going down to produce this painting of “Bikes in Amsterdam”

Windmills in Holland

Since painting windmills on location in Norfolk, I’ve enjoyed tacking the unusual subject matter of painting windmills. Earlier this year I travelled to Holland to work on some painting commissions for a client. My client wanted some scenes that were typically Dutch, which I was more than happy to oblige. My research took me to this particular scene where I did two small watercolours on Arches watercolour blocks.

Rijks Museum

On a recent trip to Amsterdam I decided to visit the newly re-opened Rijksmuseum

This was a very pleasant experience which I advise.

This museum is dedicated to Dutch Art and the history of the Netherlands. I’d read a very  positive review of the museum by art critic and TV presenter Waldemar Januszczak . This reading encouraged me to brave the crowds and queues to pay homage to Rembrandt, Vermeer and Frans Hals.
