Tiger Woods
The 129th Open Championship was held from 20th – 23rd July 2000 at the Old Course in St Andrews, Scotland. Tiger Woods won his first Open Championship with a dominant performance, finishing 19-under-par (269) to secure a eight-stroke victory.Tiger Woods’ 19-under-par (269) was the lowest total score in relation to par in major championship history at the time. Runners-up were Thomas Bjørn and Ernie Els.
Tiger Woods, at the age of 24 years, became the youngest player to complete the career Grand Slam (winning all four major championships).
St Andrews
It was the first Open Championship to be telecast in high-definition television in any country, being telecast in the United States by ABC Sports that year.
The iconic Old Course will host its 31st Open Championship in 2027, with numerous other local, charity, and collegiate tournaments taking place across its seven links courses.
