Landscapes
For many years I’ve practised the regular discipline of life drawing to sharpen my skills at drawing from observation. Although I have specialised in watercolour for over 35 years, I also worked in oil paints, charcoal, pencil, gold leaf and acrylic.
We founded the Alan Reed Art Gallery in 1996. Since then it has had a permanent exhibition of Paintings on display. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity of exhibiting throughout the UK and overseas in the USA, Italy, Oman and Kuwait.
My subjects are varied including landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, architecture and portraits. Recent commissions include the Lakes Distillery and ancient Roman architecture. It was early in his career that the quality of Alan’s work received national recognition with the selection of a number of his cityscapes in the Sunday Times watercolour competition for three successive years.
He was also shortlisted for “Artist of the Year” for Artists & Illustrators Magazine in 2014.
Alan has over 30 years of experience in teaching Art & Design. He gives private lessons in drawing and painting to children and adults and runs Painting Holidays in Italy with his wife Susan.
Alan prefers to paint from life however, he works equally as well from photographs.
