Saddler Street, Durham – Original Watercolour Painting

£1,650.00

This original watercolour painting has been inspired by my many painting trips to the picturesque city of Durham. The walk up Saddler Street, Durham takes you to the stunning Cathedral.

The wintery sky is reflected in the cobbled street where shoppers bring life and activity to the scene.

The day before the beast from the east hit the UK in February 2018, our central heating packed in. It remained off for eleven days as the engineers were unable to obtain the parts for our boiler because of the weather. The temperature inside our house dropped to a chilling 3.5 degrees! Susan move out to stay with her sister. I tried to keep the house from freezing with a couple of electric heaters.

Despite the cold, I continued to paint, wearing lots of layers, and tried to keep my sprits up. One of the paintings I did during this period was Saddler Street, Durham on a winter’s day. You could say it was inspired by the cold, both outside and inside!

Watercolour

This original watercolour painting has been inspired by my many painting trips to the picturesque city of Durham. The walk up Saddler Street takes you to Durham Cathedral.

Figures reflected in the watery pavement bring a sense of movement to the scene.

Beast from the East

The day before the beast from the east hit the UK in February 2018, our central heating packed in. It remained off for eleven days as the engineers were unable to obtain the parts for our boiler because of the weather. The temperature inside our house dropped to a chilling 3.5 degrees! Durham

Despite the cold, I continued to paint, wearing lots of layers, and tried to keep my sprits up. One of the paintings I did during this period was Saddler Street, Durham on a winter’s day. You could say it was inspired by the cold, both outside and inside! Visit Alan Reed Gallery in Ponteland to see more Paintings of Durham. And you can see more Paintings of Durham on www.alanreed.com

Durham is a city in northeast England, south of Newcastle upon Tyne. The River Wear loops around the Romanesque Durham Cathedral and Norman Durham Castle. North of the castle, 13th-century, medieval Crook Hall is home to gardens and a maze. South of the river, Durham University offers a Botanic Garden with woodland and tropical plants, and the Oriental Museum exhibiting Asian, Egyptian and Middle Eastern artefacts.
