The artwork
The painting of Red Bud captures the 16th hole at Augusta National, one of the most famous and picturesque par three’s in golf, especially during The Masters Tournament. The scene is tranquil yet dramatic, with strong use of light, reflection, and counterchange.
- Foreground: The hazardous pond dominates the lower half of the painting, its still but dangerous waters beautifully reflecting the surrounding trees, golfers, and sky. This mirror-like quality adds a calm yet tense mood, symbolizing both beauty and danger, since the water is a key hazard on this hole.
- Middle ground: The green is shown across the pond, with two golfers and caddies, dwarfed by their surrounds. The sloping kidney-shaped green, a defining feature of this hole, is carefully rendered with subtle shading to suggest its contours.

- At 35 years old, Nicklaus drained a clutch birdie putt on 16 to take the lead. He went on to win his 5th Masters. This was one of the defining moments of his career resurgence.
- Perhaps the most iconic Masters shot ever. Tiger chipped from above the green’s slope, the ball rolling slowly down, pausing on the lip of the cup with the Nike swoosh perfectly visible, before dropping in. The crowd erupted, and it helped him secure his 4th Masters win.
