Todi Umbria, Original Watercolour Painting | Paintings of Todi Umbria
Paintings and Prints of Umbria
On our Painting Holidays in Italy we take our guests to visit the various hilltop towns that are a feature of Umbria near Perugia.
This watercolour was inspired by a sketchbook watercolour painting on location in a picturesque town called Todi which we have been to on a number of occasions.
Using a combination of the sketches, a simple pen drawing and photographs I decided to paint the scene as a large A4 watercolour painting on hand made deckled edged paper which you see here.
You can watch a video of how I painted the watercolour here on YouTube.

Todi
The beautiful and elegant medieval town of Todi stands on the top of the hill overlooking the beautiful Tevere Valley. Located just a few kilometres from Perugia and Orvieto. The town is surrounded by three rings of walls (Etruscan, Roman and medieval) that contain countless treasures.
From Piazza del Popolo, the heart of the city is overlooked by some of the most important buildings of the historic center that contrast the religious ones.
Todi umbria is made up of stone houses, palazzi built onto a hillside. Wandering its steep backstreets is like playing a game of medieval snakes and ladders. The pace of life inches along, keeping time with the wildflowers and vines that bloom and ripen in the valley below.
