The church of St Mary The Virgin has stood in the middle of Ponteland for almost a thousand years. We believe Christians worshipped on this site before then. The world has changed a huge amount in that time. However, the Christian faith is just as relevant now as it was then.
Paintings of Ponteland
One of Ponteland’s most loved events is the annual Ponteland Parish Flower and Art Exhibition at the Memorial Hall. The exhibition incorporates a variety of painting subjects from local artists in the area. All Paintings of Ponteland are well admired including scenes of the village green, the Diamond Inn and the Blackbird.
If you just need a place to sit and think – St Mary’s is open every day. If you want to enjoy the history or the beauty of the church and churchyard – please do. Ponteland Village, Northumberland
Ponteland is a town and civil parish in Northumberland, England. 15 km north of Newcastle upon Tyne. The name means “island in the Pont”, after the River Pont which flows from west to east and joins the River Blyth further downstream, before flowing into the North Sea.
