Jebel Akhdar
“Jebel Akhdar Prints, Muscat Watercolour Print | Muscat Watercolours – Alan Reed
A limited edition print of Jebel Akhdar, Muscat Oman which means Green Mountain.
I was so pleased that the Original painting won “The Artist’s Prize” in the Royal Watercolour Society Competition for 2013.
I’ve received a number of commissioned watercolours over the last few years of Jebel Akhdar.
Also, I’ve been fortunate enough to paint on location there, giving me the opportunity to paint “en plein air”.
Some of my sketchbook studies can be seen in my reproduction “Sketch Book of Oman“.
Diana’s Point
We first went to Diana’s Point on Jebel Akhdar in Oman back in November 2007. The previous year I had received a number of amazing commissions for a client in Oman. Some of the commissions depicted dramatic scenes around the Al Hajar Mountain range, a place I was keen to see for myself. I felt it would be important for me to visit this stunning landscape for myself. It was over a two hour drive from Muscat but it was worth it.
Diana’s Point is named after Princess Diana of Wales. She visited Jebel Akhdar with Prince Charles in November 1986.
It’s noticeably cooler than sea level. This is why many folk living in Oman often take the journey up the mountains in the scorching temperatures of summer.
Anantara Hotel
Made famous by the BBC, the Anantara Hotel sits majestically on Jebel Akhdar. Apart from the total luxury, fantastic food and infinity pool, they have an amazing viewing area called Diana’s Point that overlooks the dramatic canyon below.
Early in the morning you can watch the sun catching the jagged mountains as it rises. In the evening before dinner, the light fades as the sun disappears behind the horizon. It’s such a peaceful setting, perfect for relaxing.
For many years, locals have grown pomegranates on the terraces which are watered by an ancient yet efficient irrigation system called Falaj.
Green Mountain
The breathtaking scenery of Al Akhdar or “Green Mountain” makes it one of the leading tourist destinations in the Sultanate.
