Dhow Reflections Original Watercolour | Paintings of Kuwait – Alan Reed
Dhows in Kuwait
This original watercolours of Kuwait “Painting Dhows” was inspired by sketchbook studies in watercolour of the dhow harbour in Kuwait.
Hand – Made Fabriano Esportazione
Painting Original watercolours Kuwait Dhows is painted on hand-made Fabriano Esportazione which is no longer being manufactured.
The very rough textured surface is incredible to paint the Original Watercolours Kuwait in watercolour. It allows you to build up clear translucent washes of colour that give a sense of depth, time and space. Also ideal for a subject as simple as a lone dhow resting in still waters.
Fabriano Paper Mill, Italy
I’ve had the fortune to visit the Fabriano paper Mill in the Marches region of Italy. One two occasions I purchased their beautiful paper and leather bound sketchbooks.
I started to use their sketchbooks to paint “en plein air” just after my first visit to their factory in 2002 . After using up my sketchbook supplies from Fabriano, I now make my own leather bound sketchbooks, a very rewarding process.

Oman and the Gulf
I knew little Painting Dhows of Kuwait and Oman and the Gulf until 2005 when I was commissioned to do two paintings for a client. I quickly became fascinated by this ancient land so I began to read up on its history.
In 2007 we decided to visit this beautiful country in the Gulf which has such a diverse landscape. It has a breathtaking coastline with crystal clear waters, dramatic mountain ranges and vast barren deserts. In the south (Salalah) there is a verdant landscape in the summer months. The Khareefwaters the parched ground and flowers appear. The culture is fascinating. The Omani people are very friendly and you always feel safe.
