Clifton Suspension Bridge Original Painting | paintings of Bristol – Alan Reed
Bristol Fine Art
Spanning the Avon Gorge and the River Avon is a wonderful piece of engineering.
I painted a small sketchbook watercolour on location late one afternoon which was the catalyst for this large studio painting.
Loose, fluid washes of subtle greys provide the perfect contrast for the more deliberate, precise brushmarks that indicate the detailed engineering.
In 2013 the Watercolour painting of “Clifton Suspension Bridge in the Mist” was Highly Commended in the Bristol Art Prize.
History of Bristol Suspension Bridge
A visit to Bristol isn’t complete without a trip across the multi-award-winning Clifton Suspension Bridge. As well as being a sightseeing must-see, the iconic bridge has a free Visitor Centre where tourists, families and locals alike can learn when, how and why Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s first bridge was built.
Clifton Bridge is one of Bristol’s most recognisable structures. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, it marks a turning point in the history of engineering. And has come to symbolise a city of original thinkers and independent spirit. The Bridge is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year. There is a £1 toll for motor vehicles and is free of charge to pedestrians and cyclists
