Visiting the Studio and Gallery in Ponteland

The Alan Reed Art Gallery was founded in 1996 and has had a permanent exhibition of paintings on display ever since. The studio and gallery sit at Eland Green Farm on North Road, Ponteland, just outside Newcastle upon Tyne, and it is here that Alan paints the original watercolours and oils you see across this website.

Because the studio is also a working space, visits are by appointment only. Call 01661 820626 to arrange a time that suits you, and Alan will be on hand to show you around, answer questions about particular pieces and talk through anything you have in mind, whether that is a single print or a larger commission.

What you will find in the studio

Visitors can see a wide selection of Alan's work in one place, including:

  • Original watercolour and oil paintings, as well as pieces in pen and ink, charcoal and gold leaf
  • Hand signed, numbered limited edition prints, produced as fine art giclée prints on archival paper
  • Scenes of Newcastle, Northumberland, Scotland, Italy and the Middle East
  • Landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, architecture, figurative work and portraits

Seeing a painting in person is the best way to appreciate its detail, scale and finish, and many visitors find it helps them decide on size and framing before they buy. You can also browse the full range online, from original paintings to limited edition prints.

Learning to paint at the studio

Alan has over 40 years of experience in teaching Art and Design, and the studio is where he gives private painting lessons to children and adults of all ages and abilities. Each lesson is tailored to the individual, with practical guidance to help you build confidence and develop your own style. For those who would like to paint further afield, Alan also leads painting holidays in Italy.

Framing and commissions

A full range of bespoke framing is available at the studio, so a new painting or print can be presented to suit both the artwork and your home. Alan is a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild, and he is always happy to advise on mounts and frames.

The studio is also the ideal place to discuss a commission. Whether it is your home, a favourite place, a pet or a family portrait, you can talk through subject, medium, size and budget in a relaxed setting with no obligation. Commission prices start from £300, and Alan offers a complimentary hanging service within a 20 mile radius of the gallery.
