An Original Watercolour – Unframed

A strong graduated wash of Winsor Green and French Ultramarine fading into a more subtle wash of Manganese blue creates a depth of colour for the sea. This in turn contrasts well with the light jagged rocks rising out of the waters.

As I painted two small watercolours on location of the Faraglioni Rocks and a sketchbook watercolour, I was surrounded by a group of Italian school girls who were very complimentary about my painting.

Another one of the places we went to was Ravello. It’s available as a limited edition print.

 

This is a studio piece inspired by the “en plein air” studies, painted on hand made watercolour paper from Fabriano.

Capri

We had a week staying in Sorrento in the Bay of Naples. Oner of the trios we made was to the Island of Capri where I painted several watercolours of the Faraglioni Rocks. From the high vantage point where I painted from they looked quite insignificant, however the arch rising out of the sea was big enough for our boat to go through.

Capri is a beautiful Island in the Bay of Naples.

Amalfi

The infamous Amalfi coast and its neighbouring islands of Ischia, Capri and Procida are amongst the most stunningly beautiful and romantic destinations you could find. I enjoyed our visit to Amalfi where I purchased some watercolour paper from the oldest paper mill in Italy. The handmade paper was pure joy to paint this watercolour of Faraglioni Rocks in Capri.
