A Signed Limited Edition Giclee Print
Saddler Street, Durham tased from the Original Watercolour Painting.
The original watercolour painting was inspired by my many painting trips to the picturesque city of Durham. The walk up Saddler Street, Durham takes you to the stunning Cathedral.
The wintery sky is reflected in the cobbled street where shoppers bring life and activity to the scene.

This scene of Princes Street, Edinburgh is taken from Calton Hill which boasts commanding views over the city. Often it is the inclusion of figures which can bring a cityscape to life, but in this instance it’s the traffic, in particular the buses nudging their way into the queues of cars, that bring a sense movement to the watercolour.
Even though the time of year is winter and the sun has almost set, there’s a strong feeling of warmth and light coming through because of the base washes of Cadmium Lemon and Rose Madder. This is contrasted by the cold shadows created by a quite bold application of Paynes Grey for the road and rooftops. Further interest has been achieved by the highlights on the cars and buses on Princes Street which have been very simply rendered.
Lifting out some of the colour has brought a feeling of mist and smokiness, giving the architecture an ethereal quality which has enhanced the depth and ariel perspective to Auld Reekie.

This is the perfect partner to the one of Bamburgh Castle, even though it’s a very tranquil scene in comparison. Lindisfrarne Castle has become an iconic image along the Northumberland coast.

This view of Grey Street, Newcastle taken from the base of Grey’s Monument is one perfectly suited to watercolour, the sky, heavy with rain clouds, the movement of the people huddled under brightly coloured umbrellas, all reflected in rain drenched pavements.

One of my favourite paintings of the city of Edinburgh which captures the hustle and bustle of a late winter’s afternoon on Princes Street. Carefully laid out washes create a sense of depth and light.

I received my framed print of Princes Street and my husband Gordon and I are delighted with the print and the quality of the framing. We just can’t stop looking at it.
Our next buy will definitely be the Forth Bridge floating in the mist….something we have seen in real life. I will be in touch later on that one.
Also want to thank you for the safe packaging and delivery. We missed the delivery yesterday but it arrived today safely. As well, thank you for the catalogue which arrived at the weekend – a joy to browse.
Having tried watercolour landscape Gordon and I recognise real talent when we see it. We both send our thanks and good wishes.
M & G – Edinburgh
A crisp winter’s day provided the ideal light for this scene of Edinburgh Castle and George Street.
