Roseberry Topping

Roseberry Topping

Roseberry Topping is one of the scenes I painted for the Junction 42 “In Cell” Creative Art Course developed during COVID.

Because we were unable to have face to face engagement with the prisoners, we developed creative art exercises for the men and women to work on in their cells.

At the hight of the pandemic, prisoners were banged up in their cells 23.5 hours a day, so the packs became valuable tools to help them with their mental health.

I went to the surrounding area to gather reference of  Roseberry Topping. I spent time walking around to get a view that captured the distinctive shape of this iconic landmark.

Many of the prisoners we were working with were from Teesside. A familiar scene would resonate with them. Even recently, one of the prisoners was sharing how he loved to walk his German Shepherd up Roseberry Topping.

Central Arcade, Newcastle A Timeless Edwardian Masterpiece

Pollensa Calvary Steps Mallorca

Pollensa Calvari Steps – Original Watercolour Painting

An Original Watercolour SOLD

The first watercolour I did was from the top of the 365 Calvari steps with the town of Pollenca in the distance. The steps are lined with picturesque properties and cypress trees which cast shadows across the steps.

I wasted no time in producing a second sketchbook painting, this time of the client’s property. Mid morning sunlight created interesting shadows to help frame the building.

Pollenca

I’ve recently been commissioned to paint a client’s holiday home in Mallorca, a very attractive Mediterranean island. To be able to paint the property with greater insight, we felt it would be best to stay for several days to enable me to do some sketchbook watercolours, not just of the property, but also the small […]

60th Birthday

Grey Street Painting This week saw me reach another landmark birthday, I’m now 60 years old. I have to say that I’m grateful to God that I’ve been blessed with 60 years to date. However, compared to my 60th, my 50th birthday was more of a year of contemplation and challenge. In 2011 when I […]

Grey Street Newcastle

Grey Street – Original Watercolour Painting

I have a couple of painting commissions involving figures and architecture.
This scene of Grey Street (now available £975 framed) is a great way to loosen up with some fresh lively brush strokes to capture the movement of the figures and the classic Georgian architecture.
It also features my wife Susan and our niece Catriona when she was about 3 years old, on the way to Panis on High Bridge Street.
I never tire of painting Grey Street, whether it’s summer, snow or rain. There’s always something going on to inspire.

Dreaming Of Walking on Water

A dream Last year I had a dream where I was underwater. There were all kinds of fish swimming around. I seemed to be aware that there were two people walking on the surface of the water. When I woke up, I decided to paint the scene for a painting project whilst the image was […]

Adebanji Alade

Artist Support Pledge At the beginning of May I was alerted to the Artist Support Pledge through artist and friend Adebanji Alade. After seeing his posts on Facebook and Instagram about the scheme I decided to do the same. I began to upload some of my smaller watercolours onto social media platforms and make them […]

Painting Grey Street

Sir Nikolaus Pevsner Grey Street in Newcastle has been described by the architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner as the finest curved street in Europe. I never tire of sitting down to capture its fine sweeping curve and Georgian columns in all seasons. You can see a number of limited edition prints of Newcastle’s Grey Street including […]
