Winter Walk a typical Northumberland snow scene ] Northumberland winter landscapes – Alan Reed
An original watercolour of a Northumbrian snow scene. The couple walking into the distance in Northumbrian winter walk landscapes provide a sense of scale to this fluid painting inspired by many a walk I’ve taken myself in the winter months.
Northumbrian winter landscapes has been painted on a hand made paper with a limited palette. The big sky provides further interest and drama to the composition.
I’ve always loved the way snow can transform winter landscapes. Painting Winter can be tricky. When the sun is bursting through clouds laden with snow and it’s reflecting off the fallen snow. There’s a distinct clarity and sharpness to the light. It’s hard to capture this in watercolour of winter walk on location because usually it is too cold for the paint to dry.
