Sur Oman Watercolour Prints signed and numbered | Paintings and prints of Oman – Alan Reed
Sur is a port city on Oman’s eastern tip. Its shipyards, which still produce traditional wooden vessels, played a pivotal role in Oman’s maritime past. In the city center, Sunaysilah Fort has 4 defensive towers around a courtyard. Exhibits at the Maritime Museum include ship models. Southeast of Sur, green turtles nest at Ras al Jinz Turtle Reserve. To the west, craggy cliffs surround verdant Wadi Bani Khalid Valley.

Watercolour Painting of Sur in Oman, a coastal town renowned for its building of dhows.
I remember the day as being incredibly hot and the sky being an intense blue as I was sketching dhows not far from where I painted the old watch tower in this painting.

Painting on Gold Leaf
There’s a story on how I ended up doing a Painting of Dhows on Gold Leaf. In 2010 I was involved in a painting of a very large Biblical scene which was to go in a church building. It was a massive project and painting, executed on 5 panels of gold leaf in oil paints. The client gave us several small boards coated with gold leaf to experiment with. So I decided to do my own paintings on this unusual and expensive surface. Read more on Alan Reed’s painting Blog
