Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many artists have found themselves without work, teaching, technical support and gallery work. Exhibitions and sales have disappeared.

In an attempt to help alleviate some of this stress Martin Burrows has instigated the ARTIST SUPPORT PLEDGE

The concept is a simple one. Artists post images of their work, on Instagram which they are willing to sell for no more than £200 each (not including shipping).

Once I sell sell 5 of my paintings, I pledge to buy another artists work for £200.

This generous strategy was initiated by Matthew Burrows @matthewburrowsstudio and it has been successful in helping artists worldwide.

Anyone can buy the work. Every time an artist reaches £1000 of sales, they pledge to spend £200 on another artists work.

Description

St-Paul’s-Cathedral Paintings For Sale

An original watercolour painting of St-Paul’s-Cathedral now available to view online as part of our online Art Exhibition. This painting of St Paul’s Cathedral in central London is part of the Artist Support Pledge.

London is a great city, full of interesting subjects to paint. I have painted St Paul’s Cathedral before, but it’s been as part of a cityscape of the Thames. Although I’m unable to travel to London at the moment because of COVID 19, I’m keen to return to paint and visit its galleries.

This watercolour of St-Paul’s-Cathedral has been painted using a very limited palette of mainly four colours. Cadmium Yellow, Rose Madder, Manganese Blue and Payne’s grey. I wanted to retain the simplicity and freshness I achieve in my sketchbook watercolours painted on location.

Daily Reflections

The Light of the World
Oil on canvas
William Holman-Hunt
About 1900-1904

“I am the Light of the World; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life”. St John’s Gospel records Christ’s proclamation which inspired Holman Hunt to paint this world famous image.
This is the third version of the allegory painted by the artist. The first, of 1853, resides in Keeble College Oxford and the second, can be seen in the Manchester Art Gallery.
The St Paul’s canvas was painted over fifty years later, and it is thought to be the culmination of Holman-Hunt’s vision.

Cathedral Art

Throughout its history, art in St Paul’s Cathedral has inspired and illuminated the Christian faith for those who visit.
