Scarinish Harbour Tiree – Original Watercolour Painting

£200.00

This watercolour painting depicts Scarinish Harbour, Tiree, one of the Inner Hebrides which we visited in 2017.

Within an hour or so of landing in a Sea Otter flown in from Glasgow Airport I painted a quick watercolour of the harbour in one of my hand made, leather bound sketchbooks.

The little red boat is apparently the most painted vessel on the island.

Within an hour or so of landing in a Sea Otter flown in from Glasgow Airport I had painted Scarinish Harbour. I used one of my hand made, leather bound sketchbooks.

The little red boat is apparently the most painted vessel on the island. You can read more about our trip to Tiree in this blog post.

Scarinish is a tiny village which has the only bank on the island, a grocery store, one hotel and a Post Office. There is also a ferry service to Oban on the Scottish mainland.

First port of call was Scarinish Harbour to purchase lobsters, crabs, fresh langoustines and local steaks for our evening meals. These were exquisitely prepared by Susan.

When painting in the comfort of the Studio, it’s easy to forget the mood and atmosphere that painting “en plein air” provides. Supplementary photographs are helpful for topographical accuracy, however they can sometimes be a little cold and sterile. There really is no substitute for having your own interpretation of the scene that was crafted in paint on the spot.

We were staying with our friends. One of their daughters has a cottage called An Caladh which is available for holiday rental.
