This original oil painting has been inspired by my personal studies of the Angel of the North in Gateshead and a recent commission to paint this iconic statue by Anthony Gormley.
Observations of many a winter sunrise and unusual cloud formations have helped create a unique painting.
The wings of the angel have been coated with 22 carat gold leaf. Depending on the lighting conditions, the painting takes on a different effect.

An original watercolour painting of Auguste Rodin's famous marble sculpture "The Kiss"
Using watercolour, arguably the most difficult of all mediums, and a limited palate, I've wanted to capture the coolness and hard form of white marble.
This original watercolour has been painted on hand-made Fabriano Esportazione which is no longer being manufactured. The very rough textured surface is incredible to paint on in watercolour. You can create some amazing textures and "wet on wet" effects.
I've been to the Fabriano paper Mill in the Marches region of Italy on two occasions to purchase their beautiful paper and leather bound sketchbooks.
I started to use their sketchbooks to paint "en plein air" just after my first visit to their factory in 2002 . After using up my sketchbook supplies from Fabriano, I now make my own leather bound sketchbooks, a very rewarding process.
Also available as a limited edition print.
In May 2017 we planned a painting trip to a Scottish Island called Tiree. We stayed in a holiday cottage there called An Caladh which means "rest place by the sea" for three nights and hoped that its name would live up to expectations. It did!
The nearby beach of Balevuillin is a favourite haunt for surfers and I could see why as the waves rushed in.
I found a suitable vantage point and tackled two watercolours of the beach, one in my sketchbook, the other on a 12″ x 9″ Arches Block.

Original Watercolour Paintings of Oman Art
A beach scene painting of Barka, Oman which has probably been the same for thousands of years.
Fishermen bring in the catch of the day which is quickly purchased by the locals.
A few days in Amsterdam enabled me to do sufficient sketches and studies of the canals for this studio painting of bikes proped up against the railings on one of the many bridges.
Oman is full of remote villages, forts amd towers. Over the last few years many of these ancient dwellings have become much more accessible through modern roads.
It's a stunning village in picturesque surroundings between the Western Hajar Mountains, half way up the mountain path connecting Al Hamra to Nakal/Al Rustaq through Wadi Bani Awf, and is adjacent to "Snake Canyon"
Bilad Satt is definitely worth a visit on any trip to Oman
This large original watercolour painting has been inspired by the off road journey I made there when I was able to make a sketch book study and take a number of photographs.
It has been painted on hand-made Fabriano Esportazione which is no longer being manufactured.
The very rough textured surface is incredible to paint on in watercolour. You can create some amazing textures and "wet on wet" effects.
