"Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. I love the low sun and the way nature produces a wonderful change in the colour of the leaves".
Match day at Stamford Bridge, the football ground of London's Chelsea Football Club. The fans make their way to watch another victory
In 2013 I spent a couple of days in Bristol, a city of Art & Culture painting on location for a competition. One of the studies I made was of the Clifton Suspension Bridge in my leather bound sketchbook.
This watercolour was inspired by the sketchbook watercolour of the magnificent bridge designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunnel and was "Highly Commended" by the judges in the Bristol Art Prize 2013.

On 6th Oct 2010 It was a lovely sunny afternoon and I was able to do some quick line drawings and a small watercolour in my leather bound sketch book to capture some of the action of the Rugby players.

The inaugural Veterrimi IV Rugby Tournament, hosted by Durham School. This painting captures the drama and excitement of the final between Durham School and Rugby School.
Although there was heavy rain for much of the day, fortunately, there were bursts of sunlight breaking through the heavy rain clouds which caused the autumnal trees to sparkle with colour.

Just to let you know that we are really pleased with the "Rugby v. Durham School" painting we ordered from you a few weeks ago.
We have bought it for our son's 18th birthday as he is the Rugby School "no. 7" holding the ball in the painting!
We did have an email about the painting through the school a while ago, but couldn't afford it at the time and we weren't sure if Matthew would really want it, he then happened to mention how nice the painting was and how he would love to have a print of it, so i hoped you had some left and bought it quick!
Matthew was a awarded a sports scholarship to the school and his place there is also funded by the Arnold Foundation.
It was an honour for him to take part in this tournament, and as much an honour for you to have immortalised this moment for him in this beautiful watercolour.

Durham School v St Paul’s School in the Veterrimi IV final on 3rd November 2013.
This was a historic event that saw the oldest rugby clubs in the world play off in a fantastic tournament which is one of a kind and only happens every two years.
The painting of such an event is not only a once in a lifetime opportunity to capture the event itself, but even more so for the parents whose sons featured in the match.
An opportunity to possess a painting of them playing is unlikely to occur again in their rugby careers.
The original watercolour painting is now available for purchase
An important game to record in memory of Noel Shearing.
It has been an outstanding year for Durham School and only the 5thtime the 1st XV has been undefeated in their regular season since rugby started at the school in 1850.

Many of the elements of the London Eye which I love to paint all seem to come together in this watercolour, architecture, skies and sunlight being reflected in water. See detailed image.
