This view of Grey Street, Newcastle taken from the base of Grey’s Monument is one perfectly suited to watercolour, the sky, heavy with rain clouds, the movement of the people huddled under brightly coloured umbrellas, all reflected in rain drenched pavements.

"So many contrasts in one painting! You have the languid, relaxed, sunny morning, somehow epitomised in the flag. Then you have the permanence of the historic buildings with both an optimistic stateliness and a kind of foreboding one.

Then you have the no-nonsense bustle of folk swiftly moving to work, united in their haste yet alone. And then this lovely little group of pigeons pecking away".      Lex Loizides, South Africa

Haar on the Forth, Edinburgh Scotland

Taken from North Queensferry looking south, the Forth Rail Bridge linking Edinburgh with Fife, rises majestically out of the Scottish mist, almost like a Brontosaurus from a prehistoric swamp.

Ice skating in Marostica, Italy

The Piazza in front of the castle became an ice rink for the locals to skate on throughout the day and into the night.

I found the whole scene an inspiration that captured something of the joy, fun and excitemenrt of Christmas.
