Piccadilly, London
An original watercolour painting inspired by a sketchbook watercolour painted on location capturing September afternoon sunlight.
In this studio painting I’ve wanted to retain the warmth of colour and the overall freshness of the “en plain air” study.
You can watch a video of this painting as I talk through the different stages of producing this watercolour.
This painting is now SOLD
London Eye – Original Watercolour Painting
Many of the elements which I love to paint all seem to come together in this watercolour of the London Eye, architecture, beautiful London skies and sunlight being reflected in water.
To see closer detail of this watercolour, Alan will demonstrate Here.
St Paul’s Cathedral London – SOLD Original Watercolour Painting
A lively watercolour showing the magnificent Cathedral under a burst of sunlight.
The figures have been loosely rendered to suggest movement and busyness and also to provide a sense of scale and heightened drama to the scene.
A limited palette helps to retain simplicity to what could easily become an overly cluttered composition because of the detail in the architecture.
Thames Sunrise, London – Limited Edition Print
Over the years I have spent considerable time studying sunrises and the way light affects cityscapes.
This painting of the Thames showing the city of London skyline is the fruit of such studies.

Thank you so much for your prompt response. We worked in the City of London and on the Thames (my husband was a Tug captain) for most of our working lives and you are quite right the skyline has changed – but your paintings of the river and the city under a “moody” sky is still a typical scene enjoyed by so many Londeners every day of their working lives as they cross Waterloo Bridge.Dear Alan
Your painting is in our Sitting Room above the fireplace and gives us daily pleasure- thank you so much!
Best wishes and kind regards, Mr & Mrs P – London

London Eye
Paintings of London London is full of incredible architecture taking in so many different periods in history. The London Eye has it’s rightful place as an iconic symbol of the Thames. Other famous landmarks include the Houses of Parliament and Tower Bridge. It opened in March 2000, bringing closure to the 20th Century and to […]
Ken Reed
Progressive Supranuclear Palsy As spring approaches, I’m feeling apprehensive about the year ahead. My father Ken Reed’s health has been deteriorating through a cruel but rare neurological condition called Progressive supranuclear palsy. We first noticed its effects almost 10 years ago when my father’s speech became slightly slow and more deliberate. He used to love singing […]
Dhows, Sur – Original Pen & Ink Drawing
An original Drawing in Pen & Ink
I really enjoy doing pen and ink drawings. There’s something deeply satisfying about dipping a lovely old fashioned Venetian pen into a small pot of sepia ink.
When working on location I’ll often do sketches in biro rather than carry bottles of ink.
This small Original Pen and Ink drawing is on handmade watercolour paper and is of two Arabian Dhows resting on the beach at Sur in Oman.
Rosso

I spent a while waiting for the right painting to turn up before seeing the work of an Italian artist who goes under the name of Rosso Art. Rosso had posted an original painting on her Instagram account rossoartist which was […]
