Paintings of Venice | Alan Reed Art
Dolomites
This is a studio painting that I painted after a memorable trip to the Dolomites and Venice in 2006. I often find that our overseas travels continue to bear fruit decades later. This was one of those trips. Not only did I produce new Paintings of Venice, but one of my photographs of Venice was featured in Dream of Venice. It’s quite a recent book by Bella Figura Publications.
Venetian architecture
We had stayed for a week in the Dolomites, taking in the dramatic landscape and the picturesque towns like Cortina. I was able to produce around 13 sketchbook watercolours. One day I intend to develop these into larger paintings. After our stay, we took our friend Nai back to her home on Via Garabaldi in Venice. I continued with my sketches and painted this simple study below of figures against a backdrop of Venetian architecture.
Artist Support Pledge
This became the catalyst for the studio painting titled Summer Evening Sunlight, Venice. It’s one of the Paintings of Venice I’ve made available as part of the Artist Support Pledge. You can buy it for just £200 unframed. Other paintings can be seen on my website including my watercolours of the North East, Scotland, Kent and Norfolk.
This generous strategy was initiated by Matthew Burrows who has developed this very simple concept.
Artists post images of their work, on Instagram which they are willing to sell for no more than £200 each (not including shipping). Once I sell 5 of my paintings, I pledge to buy another artists work for £200.
It’s a great opportunity to buy original paintings that would normally cost considerably more. Once the lockdown is over and galleries re-open, the situation is likely to change.
