It’s 22 years since I first painted this amazing view of Newcastle’s Grey Street. Over the years I’ve captured it in all the seasons. Since writing this blog post, I’ve had to amend it and it’s now 30 years!
The vantage point is unusual, taken from the second floor of Emerson Chambers in Newcastle. Of course nowadays, the top of Grey street has been pedestrianised so you wouldn’t have all the cars parked up. Despite the scene being slightly historical, it remains a popular print with my clients.
One of the versions was painted on location in Newcastle and in 2011 was featured on BBC’s Show me the Monet.
I was fortunate enough to be invited by Waterstones to do a watercolour demonstration on the second floor by the window. I was able to do much of the demonstration painting the view before me. This was appreciated by the fans who turned up for the demo.
I’ve just completed this new original watercolour of “Grey Street, Spring” which is going to be on show at my “Spring” exhibition at my Studio & Gallery in Ponteland starting Saturday 8th March. Since writing this blog post, I’ve sold the original watercolour.
However, Grey Street, Spring is still available as a limited edition print.
