Paintings of Grandchildren feature in my Spring Exhibition. It starts Saturday 13th April at my Studio & Gallery in Ponteland. It finishes Sunday 28th April. The exhibition will feature a number of new figurative paintings. This includes these two new original watercolours of two of my grandchildren.
Ewan can be seen “Looking for Crabs” and Anya is “Collecting Shells”. The paintings carry an optimistic hope for some brighter, sunnier weather. We seem to have had one of the darkest, coldest, wettest and longest winters that I can remember for some time.
These watercolours are inspired by reference taken on recent family holidays in Norfolk. I’m re-writing some of this blog post (April 2022). My grandchildren are much older, but I’ve recently painted a watercolour of another grandchild when she was a little girl. She’s been painted at the beach, using the same range of colours. This is to compliment the other two paintings which are being hung together.
These watercolours are only A5 in size. They are available as limited edition prints. I remember my father doing a painting of my younger brother Philip when he was a toddler. His painting was also a watercolour of him paddling in the sea. He looked quite hesitant as he took little steps into the cold water.
I do enjoy looking at paintings of children playing at the seaside. They often remind me of my own childhood.
