Because of my background trainting in graphic design, I love interesting signage. This van is owned by the Cod Father who provides fish (and other food) around the city of Newcastle. The humour is great and is typical of the way Geordies don’t take themselves too seriously.
Fish and Chips
I don’t believe that the van is connected to other related businesses who sell fish going under the same name. When updating this blog post, I discovered that there is a fish and chip shop in South Shields called The Cod Father.
I have to say that fish ‘n’ chips is one of my favourite meals. When I was a lecturer at Newcastle College in the 1980’s and 1990’s I used to go to an amazing fish and chip shop on Westgate Road with three other fellow members of staff. I think we paid just £3 which included a mug of tea.
There used to be a fantastic fish restaurant just outside of Ponteland called Catch. At certain times you could get fish and chips for just £15 for two before 6pm. Although significantly more expensive than what we paid in the later part of the last century, it was excellent value in 2018.
